Redmi 9 Review: Cheap or Worth it?

In the United Kingdom, the Redmi 9 is now available for purchase. In the UK, it is only available in one configuration: 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, with a recommended retail price of £159 ($209).

Xiaomi, on the other hand, is offering a fantastic deal from now until August 23. The Redmi 9 is available for £149 (US$196) with a free Mi Smart Band 4 as part of the package. To put it another way, you save and get something.

Xiaomi Redmi 9 Review

The Redmi 9 is the pinnacle of Xiaomi’s Redmi sub-search brand’s for entry-level and mid-range models. The Redmi 9 is reasonably priced at $160 (plus or minus a few dollars). That’s around seven or eight times less than the cost of a leading flagship unit. Is it true that you get seven or eight times less smartphone for your money? Or, to put it another way, what does $160 get you and what does it leave out?

Price points

The Redmi 9 is the most recent model in the vanilla Redmi series, which dates back to 2013, and is the series that launched the Redmi brand. The most important thing is always the price. On the Redmi 9, however, Xiaomi has included four camera sensors, a Full HD touchscreen, Corning Gorilla Glass 3, USB-C, fast charging, reverse charging, and an IR blaster.

The Redmi 9 can vary from more expensive devices in terms of performance, RAM, and storage to achieve its low price point. The price represents the build quality, which includes no fancy alloys, chamfered corners, or curved show. The general feel is basic and there is a lot of acrylic. That does not, however, imply that the construction is of poor quality. The Redmi 9 has a solid build.

Specs and Performance

The 6.53-inch FHD+ monitor has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a 2,340 x 1,080 resolution. Colors, brightness, and viewing angles are all excellent. The colour temperature can be adjusted in the settings, with “warm” and “cool” options available alongside the normal.

Sunlight mode, also known as assertive display, is also supported by the Redmi 9. When you walk outside into bright sunshine, your handset will aim to maximise the brightness to improve visibility. However, increasing the brightness of your laptop would only get you so far. The device will also improve the brightness in darker areas while preventing the already lighter areas from being washed out.

Custom version of Android

Xiaomi’s custom version of Android, dubbed MIUI, is used on the Redmi 9. MIUI Global 11, which is built on Android 10, came pre-installed on the unit. Google Play Store, Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Photos, and Google Assistant are also included.

The Mi Browser, the Theme Manager, Mi Calculator, the FM radio client, Mi Mover, and the Mi Remote app for the IR blaster are all MIUI-specific applications.

Compare against the competition

The MediaTek Helio G80 processor is at the core of the Redmi 9, along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage or 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The Helio G80 is an octa-core processor with two Cortex-A75 cores running at 2.0GHz, six Cortex-A55 cores running at 1.8GHz, and a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU. For background, the Cortex-A75 is the CPU core architecture used in processors like the Snapdragon 845, which was released in 2017 which is found in phones like the OnePlus 6.

Audio and Battery Life

There’s a single speaker at the bottom, next to the USB-C connector, for audio. The sound quality is just what you’d expect from such a system. It works, but the music is often thin and unreliable. Overdriving the speaker is easy; lowering the volume a little will increase the quality. A headphone jack is also located on the bottom side. Headphones can have a great experience of both sports and film.

Smartphone consumers have consistently requested long battery life. Since the Redmi 9 lacks a lot of bells and whistles, a long battery life is important. The Redmi 9 comes with a 5,020mAh battery that supports Fast Charge 3.0 at up to 18W. A 10W charger is included in the package, which will charge the battery from zero to twenty-five percent in 38 minutes, fifty percent in 72 minutes, and eighty percent in just under two hours.
