If you like the look of the iPad Pro 2021 or the updated iMac 2021, you can buy one sooner rather than later, as stock shortages are possible as the year progresses. The point is backed up by Apple CEO Tim Cook, who said as much during the company’s Q2 2021 earnings call.
In response to a query about the current global chipset shortage, Cook stated that “we plan to be supply-gated, not demand-gated,” but that supply problems will mainly impact iPads and Macs.
These problems will result in supply shortages for both product lines in the second half of the year, although it’s uncertain how long those shortages will last, with Cook saying it’s “difficult to provide a good response” without understanding how much demand other companies’ goods have now and in the months ahead.
The wait could be a while
Cook still didn’t say how severe the shortages would be – shoppers might have to wait a few days longer, or even months. But it’s difficult to tell how difficult it will be to purchase an iPad or Mac in the second half of the year, but it appears that they will be scarce.
Both use Apple’s M1 chipset, which is a significant improvement for the iPad line, taking its performance closer to that of the M1-powered MacBook Air. As a result, it might be worthwhile to purchase; but, you should do so as soon as possible.
